Lutnick says India refuses to buy American corn despite its 1.4 billion people and selling extensively to the US.
“India, the prime minister comes and visits, brags about his 1,400,000,000 people, won't let us sell a bushel of corn. And think of the stuff they sell here. You gotta be kidding.”
Lutnick advised von der Leyen that attacking Trump energizes him and he responds twice as hard, like a centrifuge.
“That explains a lot. Right? So he's like a centrifuge. You you go in and goes zing and it goes back at you faster.”
Lutnick says 15 percent was calculated as the optimal tariff rate to maximize U.S. revenue without reducing trade with Europe.
“we knew that 15% was the maximizing number, where you do the most trade with Europe, and that's the highest price you could charge without denting that trade.”
Lutnick says he opened the UK market for Maine lobster, which had never been done before.
“I had the pleasure when I was last over in The United Kingdom of going out and having them serve us Maine lobster in The United Kingdom because it was important because we opened that market.”
“I met with LeBlanc 10 times. I spoke to Carney twice. These were not raised. These were not part of it. This is different thing.”
Lutnick argues Canada manufactured new demands like a poison pill to justify ending negotiations.
“You know, when someone doesn't want the deal, they make up and say, oh, I'll do the deal with you only if you wear green.”
Lutnick predicts Canadian negotiators will return after October elections to complete the deal.
“These are elections in October. So he's making this a political thing for Canada, and my guess will be as soon as his elections are over, you're gonna see a plane full of Canadian negotiators flying down and go, come on.”
Lutnick claims Canada walked away from a finalized trade deal that both sides had agreed to for political reasons.
“We had a deal. We shook hands. The president announced it. Right? Everybody was positive. Canada made the decision for political purposes.”
Lutnick accuses Canada of manufacturing last-minute demands as a pretext to exit a deal they no longer wanted.
“You know, when someone doesn't want the deal, they make up and say, oh, I'll do the deal with you only if you wear green. And you're like, but I'm wearing I'm not wearing green.”
Lutnick claims Canada walked away from a completed trade deal for political purposes only.
“Canada made the decision for political purposes. They wanted to walk away. This is politics only.”
Lutnick predicts Canadian negotiators will return immediately after October elections to finalize the deal they walked away from.
“So he's making this a political thing for Canada, and my guess will be as soon as his elections are over, you're gonna see a plane full of Canadian negotiators flying down”
