Sacks estimates a 30% economic hole with 15-30% unemployment and GDP contracting by a quarter to a third.
“We don't know yet. You've got a, you know, we think that GDP is going to contract in the next quarter by a quarter to a third.”
Sacks frames AI as the difference between 4% great growth and 2% modest growth for the economy.
“So AI is the difference between having great GDP growth, say around 4%, and modest GDP growth around 2%.”
Sacks asserts AI has caused no meaningful job loss yet and has driven half of this year's 4% GDP growth.
“Not in any meaningful numbers. And in fact, AI has been responsible for about half of GDP growth this year. So GDP growth is about 4%.”
Sacks cites breaking data showing US productivity at 4.9% and Q4 GDP forecast climbing to 5.4%.
“US productivity just surged 4.9%, the strongest reading in nearly six years. And this is the news item, is that the Atlanta Fed, their forecast for q four GDP just climbed to 5.4%.”
Sacks cites Q4 GDP growth rate of 5.4% despite government shutdown as beyond expectations.
“But, you know, in Q4 GDP growth rate 5.4% despite a government shutdown that just, you know, that number just kind of blew everyone away.”
Sacks says AI infrastructure build-out added 2% to GDP growth rate last year, helping reach 4-5% overall.
“And just last year, this infrastructure build out added about 2% to the GDP growth rate. And I think and that's what helped propel us to this, you know, four to 5% growth rate.”
Sacks says $650 billion hyperscaler CapEx this year creates 2% GDP tailwind, excluding energy and productivity gains.
“I think $650,000,000,000 this year just in CapEx from the hyperscalers. That's about a 2% tailwind to GDP just from all the construction that's happening. I don't think that includes essentially all the energy.”
Sacks cites report that AI represented 75% of GDP growth last quarter, just from infrastructure capex.
“There's another article saying that I think in the last quarter AI was 75% of GDP growth. And by the way, this is just the CapEx part. This is the physical infrastructure.”
