Palihapitiya cites data showing H-1B average salary is slightly under $120,000, disputing highly skilled worker narrative.
“It's not really that case. And so I think the average salary, I just wanna get this exactly right, it's slightly under a $120,000.”
Palihapitiya says masters and PhD graduates get OPT visas for multiple years to find jobs.
“They are off the charts smart. But because they did a master's or a PhD, they come with a couple of years, and you can oftentimes extend that.”
Palihapitiya says H-1B visas have reached 10 times the intended 85,000 annual cap in recent years.
“But here is the data. And so what you see is that in many years, the last several, it's been upwards of 10 times that number.”
Palihapitiya explains H-1B abuse where large companies apply for 300,000 visas at once, overwhelming smaller applicants.
“What he described is that when the application window opens for what is a very small number of h one b's, a company that has, you know, call it 300,000 employees abroad will apply on behalf of all 300,000 because they're all roughly the same kind of employee. Whoever gets it gets to come over.”
Palihapitiya describes his immigrant compact as absorbing American values, constitution knowledge, and cultural heritage celebration.
“I want to know and be able to talk to you about the constitution of this country. I want to be able to celebrate the cultural heritage of this country.”
Palihapitiya notes Tom Homan was awarded a medal by Obama for managing deportations.
“The fact that Tom Homan is going there is a really good thing. He was the same person that was awarded a medal by Obama for how he managed Obama's deportation process.”
Palihapitiya argues that the majority clearly wanted both borders shut with structured immigration path.
“Everybody wanted the southern border shut and the northern border shut and a structured path to deal with illegal immigration.”
