Gurley's father was recruited from Langley Air Force Base to help start NASA in Houston.
“And he's working at Langley Air Force Base in a wind tunnel. And someone comes by and ask him and 49 other people working there, would you wanna move to Houston and help start NASA?”
Gurley discovered his father wrote influential NASA paper on rocket atmospheric bounce at age 27.
“And I looked at the date on that document and he was 27 years old when he wrote it.”
Gurley describes his father going from model airplanes to NASA control room for moon landing at age 33.
“Like, think about the idea of falling in love with model airplanes as a kid and being in the control room when they land on the moon in 1969. He was born, he was 33.”
