Gurley says industry spent forty years putting technology into the enterprise before SaaS reversal.
“The second thing is SaaS. I say we spent forty years cramming technology into the enterprise.”
Gurley argues blocking technology exports to China is not working and US needs to face reality.
“And I don't think blocking ASML or blocking AI technology or blocking anything is working. It's just not working.”
Gurley argues founders must constantly study new technology at a level uncommon in most other industries.
“Founders live on the edge of a new technological shift constantly, and they can't not know what's happening next. It requires a level of studying that is foreign in other industries and other fields.”
Gurley describes how Bjorn Borg retired playing wooden rackets while others switched to superior graphite technology.
“I don't know if you ever even know what those are. But while he was retired, everyone switched to these bigger graphite rackets with a much bigger sweet spot.”
Gurley says Bjorn Borg tried comeback with wooden racket after industry switched to graphite during his retirement.
“He retired real early in his from a age perspective. Like, I think he was around 30, and he tried to make a comeback when he was, like, 36 or something.”
