Friedberg says removing longtime taxpaying immigrants without a path to citizenship risks civil war.
“I don't know how you're gonna do it. I don't know how you're gonna do it without inciting a civil war.”
Friedberg cites Ray Dalio's 35-40% civil war probability, rooted in widespread feelings of oppression.
“And it is rooted fundamentally in the fact that everyone to some degree feels some amount of oppression right now, and this is a manifestation of that oppressed feeling.”
Friedberg suggests wealth redistribution may be inevitable to prevent civil war despite fiscal concerns.
“And I I wonder if it may be an inevitability in order to keep The United States from going into civil war. I mean that very wholeheartedly.”
