Friedberg argues Silicon Valley companies suffer from oversocialization, replicating each other's operating models.
“I just feel like Silicon Valley, a lot of companies replicate each other. You have to kind of there's this term that's being used a lot now over socialization.”
Friedberg observes that Netflix shows and movies that resonate most are ones focused on things going wrong.
“You watch all the shows on Netflix, you watch all the movies, Aaron Brockovich, like the ones that work, the ones that seem to resonate, which means that's what people truly kind of want, are the ones that talk about things gone wrong,”

“There's a YouTube video called the Disney History Institute, the channel, and it shows, like, what Tomorrowland was like when when Disney opened in 1955.”

Friedberg notes that Disneyland's Tomorrowland in 1955 originally celebrated future technology opportunities optimistically.
“In 1955, Disneyland opened, I've told this story before with this ride called Tomorrowland. This area called Tomorrowland. I mean, you've been there. And every ride there was about the future opportunity with technology.”
Friedberg explains that in the 1970s Disneyland remade Tomorrowland rides to reflect fear of technology going wrong.
“In the nineteen seventies, they started to turn over all the rides in Tomorrowland at Disneyland and every ride got remade as a fear of technology ride.”
Friedberg observes society shifting from valuing free speech to valuing comfort from offensive ideas.
“we are starting to shift towards valuing comfort over freedom of expression. And that's just kind of the big change that's occurring.”
